Art direction for an anniversary spot on the NASDAQ billboard, Times Square.

OVERVIEW

To mark their 75th anniversary, ADP took over the NASDAQ tower billboard in Times Square. The challenge was making a 30-second spot feel alive and celebratory while working within a clean, minimal brand — single color, simple iconography, and not much else to work with.

The result was a motion piece that used that simplicity as a strength, letting tight animation and smart sequencing do the heavy lifting. Brought to life in collaboration with motion graphics artist Chrystian Danucalov.

One of the more unique challenges was the billboard itself. The NASDAQ tower is tall, cylindrical, and covered in windows scattered across its face in an uneven pattern — not exactly a blank canvas. Rather than designing around them, the approach was to embrace them as part of the composition, letting the animation interact with the windows where it could. Not every moment could account for them, but where it did, it added a layer of depth that felt intentional and site-specific. It’s a good reminder that the best design doesn’t always get a perfect surface to work with.
